Projected analysis of cropped area changes in agro-climatic Gujranwala zone of Punjab, Pakistan []

The present research study was planned during FY 2021-22 for projected analysis of the major cropped area changes in agro-climatic Gujranwala zone of Punjab, Pakistan. Projections were worked out with time series analysis “Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average” (ARIMA (2, 1, 4) model) on the secondary data set of past 32 years (1990-2022). The projected percent change area of crops i.e. wheat, rice, sugarcane and maize were estimated at -0.58%, 1.5%, -1.66% and -0.21 for Gujranwala zone while same of crops estimated at 0.44%, 1.38%, 1.55%, -1.24% and -0.94 for Punjab respectively up to 2030. The yield of only cotton and maize is projected to decline over years from 2023 to 2030 with values of -0.78% and -0.21% respectively. While yield trends of wheat, rice and sugarcane is projected to increase (0.29% to 1.92%) over the same period at both levels i.e. Gujranwala zone as well as Punjab province against the Pakistan’s population growth rate of 2.40 percent. Overall more than 82% cropped area lies under rice-wheat cropping pattern in Gujranwala zone. The remaining cropped area was recorded as rice-berseem (10%), sugarcane-wheat (3.5%) and maize-berseem/wheat (1%). Based on field survey crops data the descending order of net returns (PKR/acre) with BCR were estimated as Garlic, Potato, Sugarcane, Rice, Wheat and Maize (hybrid) respectively. The economic analysis depicted that there is a need to shift from production of low-value crops to high-value crops in order to make agriculture sector more profitable and competitive. With employed ‘multiple linear regression analysis’ the slope coefficients of independent variables i.e. support price and yield for dependent variable (wheat area) were calculated as 0.044 and 0.161 for Gujranwala zone while same of values 0.153 and 0.688 estimated for Punjab respectively. Similarly, the slope coefficients of described independent variables for sugarcane area were calculated as -0.132 and 0.00 for Gujranwala zone while same of values 0.028 and 0.006 estimated for Punjab. The reasons for comparatively declining area trends under major crops particularly in Gujranwala zone might be rapid urbanization, sudden climatic changes, labor shortage, lower support price, lack of farm mechanization and uneconomic land holding size etc. Keywords ARIMA model, Cropped area, Gujranwala; Net returns, Projected, Rice-wheat

Research / Analytical and experimental study on the influence of large seismic deformations on the out-of-plane instability of highly-reinforced shear walls []

In the context of the present work, the influence of the degree of tension on the phenomenon of transverse instability of reinforced concrete seismic walls is examined. The present investigation is both experimental and analytical and consists of 4 test specimens. These specimens simulate the extreme boundary edges of structural walls. All columns simulate only the extreme reinforced areas of the walls, in order to study the basic mechanism of the phenomenon. The detailing of the specimens consists of 4 rebars with a diam-eter of 10 mm for each bar and 2 rebars with a diameter of 8 mm for each of the two bars. The geometric dimensions are the same for all specimens. What differentiates the specimens from each other is the degree of tension they have sustained. More specifically, the tensile degrees used are 10‰, 20‰, 30‰ and 50‰. The loading stages of each specimen for all specimens are as follows: (a) Uniaxial central tensile loading on each test specimen; (b) Uniaxial central compression loading on each specimen till its failure due to buckling or due to an excess of its cross-section compressive strength. The present study focuses on the tensile loading stage only. Extreme tensile strengths are also used, e.g., 30‰ and 50‰, in order to take into account, the cases of extreme seismic excitations. The experimental study is followed by the numerical investigation of these 4 specimens using appropriate statistical software and finite elements. Useful conclusions are drawn regarding the influence of the degree of elongation on the phenomenon of transverse buckling. These conclusions are substantiated both experimentally and analytically, as the results of the experiments are compared with the corresponding results of the analytical investigation.

Heated Towel []

Regular towels have been available to us ever since to assist in drying our bodies and avert the onset of chills. Once our bodies have dried after wiping, they just set the towel aside and continue their activities while dealing with shivers. The device was finally employed as a heating pad in a heated towel. It will be used as a warmer for those feeling chilly, especially during outdoor activities, so they updated it in terms of its longevity and efficacy. The materials combined with the design produced an exceedingly safe and well-designed device. The outcome is a heated towel to stay warm when engaging in indoor or outdoor activities. The material combination can maintain the temperature, and the heating pad's heat output may increase. The Heated Towel is an innovation of the towel sold in the market. It is unique because it can warm our bodies during cold days when outside of the house. The temperature of the heated towel is monitored so that users can adjust to the heat produced by the towel. Many materials have been tested to be used as heated pad, and this paper was able to show how temperature varies with the properties of materials.

he impacts of capital structure strategies on financial performance of listed companies in Nigeria: A comparative study []

ABSTRACT This study examines the impacts of capital structure strategies on financial performance of listed companies in Nigeria: A comparative study. A regressions analysis was used for the analysis of the data and pre-estimation tests were carried out. 11 firms were randomly chosen from each of manufacturing sector and healthcare sector. Data were obtained from the yearly financial reports of the selected listed firms on the Market Price per Share (MPS), Equity Ratio (EQR), Dividend per Share (DPS) and Debt Ratio (DR) covering a period of 10 year, from 2012 -2021 to test for relationship that exists between capital structures and market values in manufacturing sector and healthcare sector. The findings of this study showed that the explanatory variables (EQR and DPS) in both sectors have significant positive relationships with dependent variable (MPS) while DR has significant positive relationships in both firms but the impacts of capital structure strategies on financial performance in healthcare sector is better than that of manufacturing sector. It was discovered that the impacts of capital structure on market values differ between these two sectors in the Nigerian economy. The study recommends that management of firms pay particular attention to equity in the capital structure (which results show has negative effect on market value).Key words: Capital structure; Market values; Optimal mix of capital
